Health Outreach Contractor

Time Commitment: 10 - 20 hours per month

Compensation: $60 per hour

Location: In Person (Chicago Events)


The Organization

Lighthouse Foundation of Chicagoland is a Black LGBTQ+-led, multiracial social justice organization that advances justice for Black LGBTQ+ people across Chicagoland through empowerment, education, and entertainment. Since July 2019, Lighthouse Foundation has launched the nation’s first Black Queer Equity Index, partnered with 24 organizations, and hosted 140+ activations with 1,600+ Individuals.


The Role

The Health Outreach Specialist is responsible for delivering community-based health education, outreach, screening, and prevention services to diverse populations with a focus on black LGBTQ+ individuals. This role focuses on increasing access to healthcare services, improving health outcomes, and reducing health disparities through education, testing, vaccination, and referral services. The specialist will conduct HIV testing, administer vaccines, provide risk-reduction counseling, and connect individuals to essential healthcare and social support resources. The ideal candidate will be a registered nurse.

Key Responsibilities


  • Conduct community outreach activities at Lighthouse Foundation events.

  • Perform HIV testing, counseling, and linkage-to-care services in accordance with state and federal guidelines.

  • Administer vaccines in compliance with public health protocols, including storage, handling, documentation, and patient monitoring..

  • Offer risk-reduction counseling, prevention planning, and referrals to healthcare, mental health, substance use treatment, and social services.

  • Maintain accurate documentation, client records, consent forms, and reporting in compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards.

  • Adhere to safety protocols, infection control procedures, and ethical standards.

  • Represent Lighthouse Foundation at key external events 



Required Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Social Work, Human Services, Nursing, or related field preferred.

  • Current HIV Tester Certification in accordance with state and local regulations.

  • Current Vaccine Administration Certification, including CPR/BLS certification.

  • Knowledge of HIV/STI prevention, immunization practices, and public health principles.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and cultural competency skills.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
