Time Commitment: 15 hours per month

The Organization:

Lighthouse Foundation of Chicagoland is a Black LGBTQ+ led, multiracial social justice organization that advances justice for Black LGBTQ+ people across Chicagoland through empowerment, education, and entertainment. Since July 2019, we have launched the Lighthouse Foundation Equity Index, which helps organizations pursue equity in an intersectional manner. We have partnered with 24 organizations and hosted 87 activations, reaching 3,700 Chicagoans.


The Role:

The Community Advisory Board (CAB) will curate Lighthouse Foundation’s monthly Black Wellness Tribe virtual workforce development space and in-person quarterly sessions, as well as consult on 6-8 in-person Lighthouse Foundation major events annually. Our events aim to help Black LGBTQ+ people and allies pursue wholeness through economic, physical, and spiritual wellness. 


Responsibilities

  1. Programming & Planning – 40%

    1. Curate a monthly virtual and quarterly in-person Black Wellness Tribe sessions,

    2. Identify timely and relevant topics that reflect the mission of supporting Black LGBTQ+ communities.

    3. Secure speakers, facilitators, and partners for both virtual and in-person events.

    4. Consult on and coordinate the day of connections with event participants

    5. Help organize and support Lighthouse Foundation's advocacy initiatives  

  2. Community Engagement & Outreach – 25%

    1. Recruit volunteers and community members to participate in Black Wellness Tribe programming.

    2. Build relationships with partner organizations and local leaders to foster mutual understanding and collaboration.

    3. Promote programming through personal networks and community spaces.

    4. Help ensure that events are welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive.

  3. Advisory & Mission Alignment – 20%

    1. Guide how Black Wellness Tribe programming can best serve Black LGBTQ+ communities.

    2. Offer feedback on program goals, impact, and community needs.

    3. Uphold the values of Lighthouse Foundation: empowerment, education, and justice.

    4. Serve as a thought partner to staff on emerging issues or opportunities.

  4. Administration & Evaluation – 15%

    1. Participate in monthly virtual CAB meetings.

    2. Participate in monthly virtual Leadership Council meetings.

    3. Assist with reviewing program outcomes, surveys, and community feedback.

    4. Document key decisions, improvements, and lessons learned.

    5. Ensure events and processes meet organizational standards and support long-term sustainability.


Qualifications :

  • Commitment to social justice, anti-racism, and Black LGBTQ+ liberation

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Community organizing experience is a plus

  • Excels while multitasking, setting priorities, and working independently

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Google docs, Google calendar, and Zoom

  • High degree of flexibility; strong sense of humor; ability to work well in an evolving environment
